Occupational Therapy

Occupational therapy helps children build the everyday skills that let them play, learn, and take part with confidence, from holding a pencil to managing big feelings. Our Therapy is warm, playful and grounded in evidence, and it meets your child exactly where they are.

What It's For

A child's 'occupations' are the things they do every day: dressing, eating, playing, writing, making friends, coping with a busy classroom. When some of these are consistently harder than they should be, OT helps build the underlying skills so daily life feels easier for your child and your whole family.

How We Do It

Therapy looks like play, because that's how children learn best. We build on your child's strengths and interests, working on self-regulation, motor skills, sensory processing, self-care, and more. We also share practical strategies you can use at home, so progress isn't confined to the therapy room.

Why an OT Sees the Whole Picture

Occupational therapists are trained across every domain of a child's development, motor skills, sensory processing, cognition, communication, social and emotional growth, and self-care. That breadth is what makes us uniquely placed to carry out developmental assessments and to understand function as a whole. When a child's challenges cut across several areas at once, as they so often do, we can see how those pieces interact rather than looking at any one of them in isolation.

What Changes

Over time, everyday moments get easier: the morning routine, mealtimes, handwriting, settling into a big day. Confidence grows, frustration eases, and your child gets to simply be a child, taking part in the things that matter to them.

How OT Can Help

Self-regulation and managing big emotions
Fine and gross motor skills and coordination
Sensory processing and everyday tolerance
Self-care: dressing, mealtimes, toileting
Play skills and connecting with other children
Practical strategies for home and school

OT isn't about 'fixing' your child, it's about unlocking what's already there. With the right support, your child builds the skills and confidence to grow, connect and thrive.

Common questions

Questions Parents Ask Us

What does a paediatric occupational therapist do?+

We help children build the everyday skills that let them play, learn, look after themselves and take part with confidence: pencil skills and handwriting, coordination, sensory processing, emotional regulation, self-care routines and school participation.

Does my child need a diagnosis to see an OT?+

No. Support is based on what your child finds hard, not on a label, and no referral is needed to book with us privately.

Where do sessions happen?+

In our Buderim clinic, in your family home, or at school or kindy. Where we work is a clinical decision based on where the skill needs to transfer.

How long will we need to come for?+

That depends on your child and your goals. We review progress with you regularly and will be honest about when therapy is no longer what your child needs.
